Car Care Pointers

This week Volvo asked us to write about our “Car Care Pointers”, basically how we take care of our cars to tips on decorating our cars with stickers and stuff. (As you might remember I am part of the Volvo/Biggest Fan in the Big East Contest... so please, don't forget to VOTE!! :) http://bigeast.org/Sports/MensBasketball/myBIGEASTvolvo.aspx#content_poll

Well I think since college this has (obviously) changed a lot for me. My car in college did have a Pitt sticker (I would never put a sticker on my car now). My car in college was used, a little banged up (mostly from street parking in Oakland) and most likely was filled with either diet coke cans or empty Parliament boxes (I know, ew, gross, I smoked…)

Anyway, after graduating college and buying my first brand new car (Toyota Rav 4, nothing fancy, but I was still excited because it was my first car with literally 6 miles on it when I bought it). I kept this car spotless, I would wash it every weekend (myself), vacuum it out at least once a month, I NEVER let anyone smoke in it. I loved this car and it lasted me a long time, up until a year and a half ago. I had an accident and ended up getting my Honda CRV which I love too. Again, nothing too fancy, but it is perfect for me and where I am now in my life. Perfect size for two kids (although I am already scoping out cars that will fit three, hmm… I wonder if the Volvo S 60 fits three, just in case, fingers crossed) and it fits two strollers and all of their stuff in the trunk.

My car care pointers are also different now then they were from before kids. Now I keep a container of Clorox wipes and I use them almost daily…. from milk splashes on my leather seats, to salty foot prints on the back of the passenger’s seat, there is always something that needs to be cleaned up daily. I also am still vacuuming my car, but now it is almost weekly, this is my fault because I let B eat in my car every day, so there are crumbs everywhere. Sometimes it is the only way we can make it to my parents to down the shore if by feeding him. I am also constantly Windex-ing the windows inside. My Pitt stickers have been replaced with Backyardigans window shades and instead of streamers or decals, I have monkey mirrors and toys for the kids.

I also think the number one car care pointer would be to make sure you don't run out of gas! Make sure this doesn't happen to you, fill up your tank if you are under a quarter tank. Oh! and get regular oil changes (that's a little shout out to my best friend jen... haha!)

After seeing the Volvo S 60, it seems to be about the same size as my husband’s car, he has an Infiniti G35. A great size for a family, but also still hot enough to not be thought of as a family car. It looks sleek and shiny, so I don’t think I would decorate it with any stickers… I would just keep it looking clean and nice! I wouldn’t touch or change a thing.

I also just want to thank Volvo for sending us a Volvo Safety Kit for our cars. This is incredible and such perfect timing (especially since I just watched that 20/20 Wrong Turn, where the family is stuck in a snow storm in their car for 9 days!)

It really has so many things everyone should automatically have in their cars. I want to find out how to buy these bags and buy one for my family and friends because it is very important, you never know when you will need all this stuff. There is a Swiss army knife, a flash light, water, emergency blankets, and a first aid kit.

I also want to thank Volvo for sending us the hats and koozies! The koozies have now amused my son all weekend while he puts a ball or something in one and then uses them to drop the ball into the next and the next. : )

a VOLVO S60 would SOOO be much better!!! :)
