A Full Weekend of Pittsburgh Food

Volvo has now challenged us to make up our “Late Night Food Driving Course”. This is fairly easy for Pittsburgh which has some of the best food close to campus.

A couple of our friends are going out to Pitt with us for our weekend back at school. We started sending out emails trying to plan our Pitt weekend and the first seventeen emails were all lists of food places each of us wanted to make sure to hit while we’re there. There are so many great places and to think we really took advantage of going to all of them when we were there. I still can’t get over that we used to go to Mad Mex and Fuel n Fuddle for half off after 11, like it was the most normal thing! I could never imagine eating what we did then after 11 now… ugh! But it was good…

So, when we have the Volvo S60 at our disposal, where will we go? What late night places would be worth the ride?

I think if you ask all Pitt alumni the first place they would all say would be “The O”!

The gross, dirty, grungy, amazing, delicious Original Hot Dog Shop. You can only step foot in there post 2am, you should have had a little (or a lot) to drink, and you get a large fries (that come in a HUGE bag) with a side of cheese and ketchup… ridiculousness!

You knew it was a good night when you woke up the next morning and there is the big bag, ripped down the middle, with the fries still laying across your living room table.

The next stop would have to be “Fuel & Fuddle”. A great bar with some of the best beers and great bar food too! They have incredible sweet potato fries, a Pittsburgh classic. My best friend was one of the chef’s here when we were in school and she would bring home the best food. Of course on the nights she didn’t work, we would hit up “Fuel & Fuddle” for half off after 11pm. They have delicious wings, “rollafatty”, and even an unbelievable baked brie… yummm!

The next stop would have to be “Primanti Bros.”. Ahhh… the famous Pittsburgh sandwiches, with yes, fries ON the sandwich. Now, while I have had the fries ON the sandwich, I did get used to ordering “double egg and cheese, fries on the side” during college. And this is one on the only places where I will eat corned beef and love every second of it! My mouth is watering just thinking about it!

To wrap up our late night course I would make the last stop at “Mad Mex”. Home of my favorite ever Mad Mex burrito, great casa salad, half off after 11pm, and of course the amazing Big Azz frozen margarita with salt!! Yummmm! Saved the best for last! I will enjoy and savor every last drop of my favorite frosty beverage.

Thank you Volvo, I am already so excited for March and after writing this blog, I am going to stop eating now to prepare! ;)
