Best Road Trip Playlist ~ Volvo S60/Big East Basketball

Best Road Trip Playlist

For the next challenge, Volvo asked me to make a “Best Road Trip Playlist”.

When I think of doing that five hour drive from Philly to Pitt for four years I think of how the music changed over that time. Not only the music but how when I went to school in 97 my car had a tape deck (ONLY a tape deck) and was full of mix tapes. We didn’t have iPod’s, we didn’t even have CD’s, wow, I feel like I am really aging myself now…

When I reminisce about Pitt, most of my memories are based around music in some way. So I think it would be fitting to make a playlist of the songs that bring back specific memories from my years at Pitt.

I remember….

Dancing on our beds with my roommate Jen, in the dorm freshman year to Natalie Imbruglia’s "Torn".

Or how my best friend Jen (another Jen) down the hall was listening to 80’s music like “Walking On Sunshine” while my friend Nikki and rolled our eyes.

Dancing on our porch of our first off campus house sophomore year with Joan to Britney Spears “Baby One More Time”, so excited for our first house party.

Or dancing on green couch to N Sync’s “Bye, Bye, Bye”.

Getting ready with my seven roommates for a night out, singing to songs like “The Boy Is Mine” by Brandy and Monica, or Usher’s “You Make Me Wanna”.

Dancing with the girls in a circle a Theta Chi franternity party, singing with Nikki and Nicole to Mase and (at that time) Puff Daddy’s “Only You”.

Taking road trips with Nikki and Steph to follow Phish to Florida (for New Years 2000), Columbus, Ohio or Dear Creek, listening to "Moma" or "Cities" on the way.

Dancing on the bar at Tequila Willies or on stage at Donzi’s to Destiny’s Child “Say My Name” or “Bills, Bills, Bills”.

(I guess I used to like to dance ON a lot of things….)

Or of course spring break in Bahamas with the girls when Gindin would get so excited to hear Sisqo’s “Thong Song”.

Or the next year spring break in Acapulco with Jules and Steph, dancing in the clubs to “One More Time” (a thousand times)~ (by Daft Punk? who even knew that…? I had that on my CD’s as “Acapulco Mix: Good Song”).

So now I am definitely making a playlist (on my iPod) for when my husband and I drive to Pitt for our back to school weekend, I am sure we will think of many more songs before then and along the way, (because I just realized I didn’t even add any Biggie or Dave Matthews (which was all over Nikki and my beer tears mix… yes, we had a “beer tears mix” but I won’t even get into all that…lets just say it was “good luck”) but these are the songs that stick out and make me smile whenever I think of my time and friends at Pitt.

Check out the Volvo S60!!!

Great trip down memory lane, but so many forgotten songs. I agree 100% that music is one of the most nostalgic things and a few that come to mind immediatly are "let me clear my throat" (any party on the hill, but mostly at Theta chi of course), ODB "baby i got ya money" at the attic drinking quarter drafts, or any song from GSW always brings me back to hanging at the house.
