MomSpace TV Host Joey Fortman hung out with Jenny Silva, the creator of www.SignUpForCamp.com.
Jenny Silva estimates she sent more than 100 emails last summer just to coordinate her six-year-old son’s summer camp plans – between finding friends to accompany him to various camps to arranging car pools with other moms.
This experience inspired Jenny, a Stanford MBA and web site guru, to create a web site that would not only help parents find camps that fit their kids’ interests – but assist them in coordinating schedules with other parents. Thus -www.signupforcamp.com features a built-in calendar that allows you to "friend” other parents and send each other your kids’ camp schedules.
Signupforcamp.com is being rolled out in San Francisco and Philadelphia only. "We picked Philadelphia because it is well-known throughout the country for its summer camps,” explains Silva, a mother of two. The site has been live since February 1 with two Philly moms who have 7 children between them running the local operation.
Check out the website and find great answers to:
Choosing The Right Camp For Your Child – It sounds easy but many parents make basic mistakes. What are some questions you should ask before signing up? What are some pitfalls to avoid? (This can also be customized to picking a camp for your preschooler ).
Phastastic Philly Camps – You name it, we’ve got it! From Militia Camp (where your 8-year-old really does get to run around with a faux musket) to Knitting Camp, Skateboard-Building Camp, Lego Robotics Camp to the Philadelphia Restaurant School’s Chef Camp – we’ve got a bazillion Phantastic camps! What are some Phantastic Philly camps people should know about?
Learning Loss Over The Summer & How Camp Can Help - It's a fact most kids lose academic ground over the summer. The Philly region abounds with "academic camps" designed to sharpen skills and keep those brains working! From "handwriting camp" to reading programs, math camps, history camps - we've got it. And there are plenty of camps that sneak learning in without kids even knowing it (kind of like hiding the peas in the mashed potatoes!). What are some of these camps? Who are the good for?
Tweens & Teens - Everybody know they're hard to please. What are some good camp options for this set that parents may not know about?
